Are you a last-year student of Junior High School? If
yes, you must be so busy with a bunch of examinations before your graduation,
and for this reason, you have to focus on the lessons, must not you? Then what
are you doing here? I ask you politely to turn off both your phone and laptop,
and start studying. But, before you study, I have last question for you. Are
you still confusing on choices of higher level school? Ah, I daresay there are
still lots of ninth grade students who are confused about choosing SMK or SMA. Well,
if you are one of them, please keep reading. This article will take you to the
differences between SMK and SMA which will be good consideration for your
decision.
First of all, both schools have difference in emphasis and focus. SMK more emphasizes
on the lab skill than the theory. SMK’s students will have many kinds of
practice in the laboratory based on the major. On the other hand, SMA will focus
on the theory and lack of the lab skill.
Next difference is the choice of majors. SMK has larger choices of majors such as
Pharmacy, Health Care Analysis, Chemistry, Accounting, Hospitality, Computer
Engineering, etc., while SMA may only have three majors; natural sciences,
social sciences and literary sciences.
Another difference between SMK and SMA is the readiness to enter the World of Work. SMK’s
students are obviously more ready to enter the world of work because they have
been equipped with various skills related to their majors as well, and moreover
they have ever undergone one or more internship programs during the study
directly to their major’s world of work. In contrast, as I said before, SMA is
lack of Lab Skill. SMA’s students are not as ready as SMK’s. Can also be said
that almost no job in accordance with SMA’s majors. Even so, it does not mean
that SMA’s students cannot work directly after graduation.
Then, another difference that can be told is the readiness to enter collage. In this
point, SMK’s students are not as ready as SMA’s. During the study in SMK, the
students are forced to focus on the lab skill and the theory that is related to
their major only. As we know, the materials of collage test are mostly based on
the materials that be taught in SMA, with any chance I also can say that the materials we are talking about are not taught in SMK. Therefore, it will be easier for SMA’s
students to enter collage than SMK’s student will be.
Last difference is school fees. Perhaps, we may say it is actually according to each
school. That is true, but in general, school fees in SMK is much higher than in
SMA since we must pay extra fees for lab skills, practicum equipments,
internship program, and other expenses.
Although SMK and SMA look very different, the purpose
of both schools is to making the nation’s youth up into a better generation of
builders and keepers of our archipelago. Tips that I can give you is to
thinking carefully your decision by considering not only aspects that be told
above, but also from yourself, such as passion, interest, future planning, and the result after you consult with
parents and teachers. Hopefully, you all can make right decision enlighten your
future up.
